What are the best winter wedding flowers?

Choosing winter wedding flowers is much easier than it used to be because of the availability of flowers all the year round. The seasons are disappearing for most of the tried and trusted favorites.

It's becoming increasingly common to use foliage as much as flowers. For example Poinsettia make a striking arrangement and are available in red or white. If you're getting married in December you could consider an arrangement of the the traditional Christmas flowers.

Something else that you could think about is to use silk flowers. Then you're not at all limited by the time of year, you can have what ever your favorite blooms are and keep them forever. One enterprising young bride used the silk winter wedding flowers from her reception to make her Christmas flower decorations for a number of years after she was married.

Another alternative is to choose a single flower and have a very simple bouquet. White calla lilies, a single color of roses, or blue irises, all of these are available all the year round and can make a striking arrangement. Mix Calla lilies and purple iris to make a beautiful mix of colors.

Tulips start to become available in December and again a bunch of pink tulips as a bouquet, wrapped with a white satin ribbon strip can look amazing. An elegantly simple solution.

If you want something that's a little fuller then Baby's Breath in a single flower arrangement can look stunning. Wrap the stems in black velvet for a really exotic look. The frothy blooms against the velvet looks amazing. This makes a good, relatively inexpensive posy for your bridesmaids. Simple and yet effective.
