Seeds Flower
A few general tips for seeds flower, herb, vegetable and wildflower
Buying seeds flower, vegetable, or wildflower, is becoming an easier and a more reliable pursuit as long as we follow a few sensible precautions.
Always buy your seeds from a reputable source... the germination percentage will be far superior.
Do NOT smuggle seeds [flower, herb, wildflower or vegetable] into your country... they can carry pests and diseases, and it's usually illegal [not to mention stupid and selfish!]
And DO read the storage instructions... so that seeds are stored at the correct temperature and do not get damp.
[I am going to mention an apology here at the very beginning of this page... so far I haven't found a supplier of seeds who can supply to Australia, New Zealand or South Africa... because of import restrictions. Sorry!]
If and/or when I remedy the above problem I will delete the above paragraph and supply details.

Now that you are back, just a few thoughts.
More plants die from drowning than drought! This applies especially when they are seedlings. So if you want to see your seeds flower don't overwater them!
Seeds... flower, herb, vegetable or wildflower can sometimes benefit from a period of cold to induce germination. Try storing them in the refridgerator prior to planting.
If you see a plant you fancy, or if you have a favourite with which your growing conditions are not compatible... grow it in a tub, or indoors, something [or some way]... if you really, really want to grow it, somehow you can manage... you can!
I grow all sorts of plants in containers with the appropriate soil... I even move them round for the sun [or shade] at the right time of day. You don't need to do that every day a little bit of what they don't fancy won't do them any harm! And as they grow bigger they will become more tolerant of unsuitable conditions... not to mention that they will become heavier, larger, and more difficult to move!

When you are planting seeds [flower, vegetable, herb, or wildflower], do not use a soil which has too much fertiliser. Either choose a specialist seed compost, or, use a normal compost and make a 50, 50 compost and horticultural sand mixture. The sand will help create a more free draining mixture... which better suits seeds and seedlings.
I always water from below... this helps to stop capping (the creation of a hard crust which stops the seeds pushing up through the soil and being able to breathe).
With Sweet Peas some people advocate the soaking of the seed in hot water and nicking of it to make them germinate faster. A protected early start is vital to get the best out of them and it should be noted that they are greedy feeders.
And one last thought... though not for flower seeds... for growing runner beans, though they do look very pretty grown in a circle! Always put in plenty of compost or well rotted manure in the planting area, so that the soil will retain moisture. They love plenty of water. And if you suffer from flower drop... then water with a solution of a small handful of garden lime in two gallons of water.
