As soon as I began to try and choose a few good quality florists to recommend, I realised just how many different things had to be taken into consideration. And, more than that, just how many different reasons there are why anyone would require flower delivery!

I think the biggest difference is whether you are looking to create a long-term relationship with a florist, or if you require a 'one off' delivery, be it for a happy or sad occasion.

If you are only requiring a 'One Off' flower delivery be it a bouquet for a birthday, an anniversary or some other celebrations, or for a funeral wreath... the best thing to do if the florist is new to you... is to put in as precise a request as you can possibly think of!

What I mean by this, [as I know of some florists who have no sense of colour, and very little idea of scale and proportion!] is to state what colour the flowers should be and state which types of flowers you would prefer.

A wreath or bouquet in one single colour will look far more effective, than a poorly colour-matched concoction... and if other design principles are ineffectively used, then it won't show up so much!

If you are looking to set up a permanent relationship for flower delivery with a florist in a certain place... the best thing to do is to try some out, preferably with the same kind of request... for example a 'birthday bouquet of lilies'. It is well worth the extra effort if you need flowers frequently... and there are many different shops within a chain, in a large cities like New York, Chicago, or London, for example.

I know that in quite a few instances [probably most] it isn't possible to try out facilities in this manner... in which case it is best to make a note of those you have tried and rate them... one to ten, or some such. Some may be better at one kind of flower and others at another type of flower delivery.
