Easter Flowers

Each spring, Easter flowers represent abundance, fertility and renewal, so they are perfectly suited for any Easter celebration. Flowers have a language that is all their own. Around the time of Easter, lilies, azaleas and daffodils are three of the most popular and traditional flowers given as gifts, decorating a festive Easter dinner table, or seen in churches.easter lily, easter flowers

LILIES
The most traditional of Easter flowers is the white lily. The meanings associated with the lily are virginity, purity, majesty, and "It's heavenly to be with you". Lilies have a single flower stem that comes up from a bulb. This is said to represent Jesus Christ's' resurrection (to life) three days following his death. The white trumpet shaped flower is popular for decorating churches and for weddings around Easter. It is common for Easter lilies to be forced to grow in greenhouses so they will bloom in time for Easter.

AZALEA

Azaleas are another popular Easter flower. Azaleas, flowering bushes, are extremely colorful with red, pink or even crème colored blooms. Azaleas, like lilies and daffodils, are seen as an ancient symbol of Christ's' resurrection, good tidings and rejuvenation.

Quick tip: Be sure to purchase a hardy azalea so it can be planted outside in the spring and enjoyed from year to year.

DAFFODILS

It is said the daffodil is a symbol of Christ's' resurrection from the dead – a new flower is 'born' from a seemingly dead bulb. The meanings associated with the daffodil are unrequited love, regard, "You're the only one", and "The sun is always shining when I'm with you". Every Easter occasion can be brightened and warmed with white lilies, daffodils or azaleas, so choose one, two or all of them to give as gifts to remind others of the meaning behind the Easter celebration.

One tip to remember: if you plan to purchase daffodils and tulips for an Easter bouquet, be sure to keep them in separate containers. They don't fare well when placed together.
