For other subjects you may need to learn the basics [or a little more], and then go to classes. Here I am thinking of drawing, sketching, and painting... most college lessons are of mixed ability, and you will get much more out of the course if you have a good basic grounding before you enrol. I can do no better than recommend the following books which I featured on the 'Photography and Sketching' page...
I have a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards myself [her previous book], and found it informative and enlightening... it is quite surprising what you can achieve. I recommend that you look at all four books, and read the reviews... but, in the end, it is all down to personal preference.
Learning... Quickly...If you only have a passing interest, or need to just pick up a small amount of information about a subject, then maybe a visit to your local library will suffice. Another option will be to check out what courses are available either locally in schools, colleges, and other educational institutions, or as residential based holiday learning. Details of these may be available through libraries... if they don't know, they should know where you can find out!
