Choosing August Wedding Flowers

What are your options for August wedding flowers? A wedding in August gives you the first cool breezes of autumn while still taking advantage of the warmth and color of summer, and if you are getting married during this time, there are many advantages available to you.

What's in Season?

August is a bit late in the growing season, and you may have some concern about the flowers that are available. Don't worry, there are many flowers to choose from at this time of year, and whether you want something that will accent the colors you have chosen or you want to match your wedding to the plants, you'll have plenty of options.
August wedding flowers Choose Carefully

The first thing that you should do is think about which flowers are currently in season. It is extremely expensive to supply out of season flowers for an entire wedding, so take some time and make sure that the flowers you pick are in bloom during the month of August. Similarly, remember to try a number of different florists, but don't range too far afield. If you find a great deal, but then have to pay an exorbitant amount for transport, it comes to the same thing.

The most well known flower that blooms during August would probably the dahlia, which has colors ranging from a warm and buttery yellow to a vibrant scarlet. This flower also has blooms in some fascinating sizes and shapes, so consider how well they will look adorning your bouquet and your reception! For something sweet and gentle, look at the Appleblossom dahlia, and if you want something a little more robust, consider the Heat-seeker dahlia.

White Flowers

If you are after traditional August wedding flowers in white, consider the amazingly fragrant gardenia and the stately calla lilly. Both of these flowers are quite beautiful in arrangements, and you'll find that when they are coupled with greenery like eucalyptus that they practically glow. If your wedding as a more subdued theme in blue or purple, consider using the aptly name love in the mist, flowers that range from a cool dusky blue to a sweet violet. These blooms are perfect for a real romantic who loves variety in her bouquet.

Delphiniums are perfect for arrangements and as the only truly blue flowers around, they can make a striking statement, especially if you want to pair them with vivid irises, which are also in season. Look out for overwhelming the room with blues and purples, though and make sure that you have plenty of flowers like baby's breath (also in season in August) around. You can also get a great deal of vivid color from hydrangeas, snapdragons and orchids.

Remember that your wedding should be a celebration, so find the flowers that look their best this time of year. As you can see, you have plenty of choices when it comes to selection!
